Powder Coating
As the name implies the cleaned items to be coated are hung or placed onto a mobile jig. The jig is then
attached to an earth connection from the powder coating machine. The items are then coated with a manual gun to give an even
coating all around the item. This sytem eliminates runs that can occur with conventional painting as the thickness of the
coat is governed by the operator via the coating unit controls.
The important thing about any product that is to be coated is that it must be clean. New products are degreased
and ideally should be phosphated or etched via spray or shotblasted to ensure the powder has a good key to the item.
All used items must be shotblasted prior to coating to remove all rust and old paint.
All new iron gates and railings should be shotblasted to remove all traces of millscale and welding slag
prior to coating, otherwise a good coating job will be ruined as the millscale breaks away from the metal and takes the powder
with it.
